Hey Surat! I'm looking for some Chuck Norris pictures to use on the Panel of DOOM! flyer I'm making. Are you holding? Or do you have something else in mind for the flyers?

All of the flyers along with the panel description make mention of the special picture, so I'll build to that and probably show it either near the beginning or around the halfway point. I'm also going to try and get more Zardoz clips in the mix since I barely made a dent in that at Express. Forklift Driver Klaus definitely goes over well, but I have to clip it such that it starts right at the animated intro screen. In lieu of Chuck Norris I've got a bunch of Arnold clips, and at the very least I'd like to show some bits from Hercules in New York, The Villain, and Commando. I don't think people have forgotten about Batman Begins just yet, so now's my chance to throw in Adam West using shark repellant spray and trying his darndest to get rid of a bomb. Note to self: increase the volume on the Conan the Barbarian "CRUSH YOUR ENEMIES" clip.

I've actually got my own original tape of Cartoon All-Stars to the Rescue, so I think I'll clip it together just a little differently than how I've seen it at other Hells...after I encode the whole thing for posterity because the current encode of it has that annoying watermark at the beginning. I don't have the full Eddy Eagle animation complete with Jason Priestly guest appearance, so I'll use Eddy along with Pistol Pete ("Pull my trigger and feel my heat!"). A few clips from TV Funhouse are in order, but I don't know if I want to use George Clooney as Speed Racer or not. Conspiracy Theory Rock didn't seem to go over as well as I'd have hoped, but Bambi 2002 is a proven hit and I think now is the time to strike with one of those Michael Jackson bits. Wasn't there a TV Funhouse bit with a talking Titanic? I don't mean the Titanic cartoon that Neil has. Man, I bought that thing on Region 2, AND IT'S CUT FOR RUNNING TIME COMPARED TO THE R1. EDIT: Ah here it is. It's called "Walt Disney's Tidey." Not quite as good as Bambi 2002, but still funny.

Due to my needing to keep SOME semblance of Japanese content, I plan to run some more of Ayaka's Surprise English Lessons along with some Japanorama (the BBC documentary, not the crazy comp that Danno bought since I've never actually bought that). I'm not sure if I want to rerun the Adam and Joe Go Tokyo clip where they cosplay as Harry Potter since I ran it last year at both AFO and AWA, but the new book just came out so now's the time to be making fun of Harry Potter. I also plan to intersperse some Densha Otoko clips, and in so doing I may also toss in the Daicon opening animation. Plus there's the Heart of Madness musical sequence from the Fist of the North Star movie, to be followed up with that guy on American Idol auditioning by singing Heart of Madness phonetically.

On that note, Phil has me intrigued at the notion of running music videos, so I might run some Bob Sapp clips before showing Sapp Time, plus I've also got the Halcali videos he sent. I was going to show Dragostea Din Tea, but then I heard them actually play that song during the Final Fantasy Ball at Metrocon and now I'm not sure if I'd feel clean after running it. Fish Fight didn't go over very well the first time I ran it, but I think I'll give it another shot. Stork Patrol might be too...quasi-furry.

If only there had been multiple sequels to Don starring Amitabh Bachchan. With that bowtie, suit, and glasses, he could've been my Heino equivalent. :(

Hey Surat! What can we look forward to at PANEL OF DOOM!?

I'd like to do it, but the only iPods I can get a hold of are the 4th generation ones, and Podzilla doesn't work on those. I understand that there's some feature where you can at the very least record audio in 8 khz mono using the standard iPod software and a microphone, but I don't see any menu options for anything like that.

I actually just found out that my dad has owned a camcorder and tripod for the last SIX YEARS. I think I'm going to try setting the thing up in the corner of the room and recording myself that way, but I'd also like to try and get the MP3 recording done as well.

Boy, I sure picked the wrong time to get an Xbox! Spent the weekend modding it and setting it up on a wireless network instead of pulling together more panel stuff. Luckily, I'm pretty much ready as it is, and the other stuff I find from here on out is just icing on the cake. Though y'know, I have installed Xbox Media Center on it, and if I'm not mistaken, one can setup playlists on it. Maybe it'd be worth adding that into my technological setup OF DOOM as well.

Hey Surat! You still thinking about recording PANEL OF DOOM for podcast?

It's easy to read, looks alright, I'd say it's printable. Your fonts may come out all 8bit looking. What did you make these flyers in? Word?

Yeah, as a rule of thumb if you're planing to print you should work at 300dpi. Which usually makes your machine run slower because that's alot of info in a single page doc. If you're aiming for putting it on the web you want 72dpi.

All the flyers I've posted in the last week were created in Illustrator and saved as encapsulated postscript files, EPS. The eps files where then converted to 300dpi PDFs for printing. Which is similar to how I put together the Psychommu Gaijin zines, except we still seem to have problems at Kinkos...

Okay, I threw this together pretty hastily, but this should be an idea of what I'm trying for. I feel kind of dirty doing this one, so I don't know if I'll actually use it:

Interesting, but I'd make the event info more prominent. The header font looks kinda lo-res, too.

I like the warning, I'd throw a box around it to give it the proper Surgen General vibe.

The Gir image is good, but it'd be stronger if you juxtaposed it with, for example, a picture of Zim with a knife sticking out of his head in the background or off to the side...

Actually, I've been out of town the last few days and didn't get to see it until just now. Looks pretty cool to use as one of the nonsequitur ones. But hey, shouldn't it be 616 because of that story they ran a while back regarding how 666 isn't the right number after all? :)

I'm going to try and make these things in color, but I might have to just go with B&W should they not look quite right.

Ok, you don't like it. I'll just post another one.

Regarding the matter at hand, I'm actually not planning to use Walker, Texas Ranger clips this year even though they're hilarious. For those craving their Walker fix, Conan brought the skit back recently and a lot of the Walker clips he runs are the same ones he was running before.

I was supposed to get AFO stuff in order last week while also burning some DVDs to mail out to folks, but well, rediscovery of videogames happened. This week I plan to at least get some flyer work done since in my idealistic mind, I want to try and make as many different flyer designs as I can, with each one having spaces for the date/time/room (Friday night, August 5th, 11 PM, Main Events). The first one I'm going with is one that Phil Lee originally conceived, but decided against doing because he decided it'd be in bad taste. It's this picture from the Genshiken manga:

http://www.raspberryheaven.net/~surat/genshiken.png

Along with either some sort of caption regarding how the Society for the Study of Modern Visual Culture approves of the Panel OF DOOM, or the names of many the various things planned for the show written in semi-transparent text in the background a la Phil's Tylor flyer, only I'd be sure to have "THE SPECIAL PICTURE" as every fourth or fifth item on the list. Sheesh, I'm such a knockoff artist!

I was also considering making one with Ayaka:

http://www.raspberryheaven.net/~surat/ayaka.jpg

A shot like that along with some sort of speech bubble with words greeting the honorary Japanese citizens (that's right, YOU with the metal headband!) and instructing them to learn English at the panel, but at Metrocon they showed all of the Surprise English Lessons in the video rooms, so I'm not sure if I'll stick with that idea. Well, that and the fact that every time I try to make speech bubbles in Photoshop, it never looks right. Zardoz commanding people to attend the panel might be a better bet, but the question is which headshot to use. Perhaps this?

http://www.raspberryheaven.net/~surat/zardoz.jpg

Some ones I'd like to do but probably don't have the talent to pull off would be ones in the style of those 50s style horror posters. Stuff using images/captions like these:

http://www.raspberryheaven.net/~surat/dayofdoom.jpg
http://www.raspberryheaven.net/~surat/humanmind.jpg
http://www.raspberryheaven.net/~surat/doom1.jpg
http://www.raspberryheaven.net/~surat/doom2.jpg
http://www.raspberryheaven.net/~surat/doom3.jpg
http://www.raspberryheaven.net/~surat/doom4.jpg

I guess if I find a suitable font (hey Danno, what font did you use to make the old Hell flyer with Dave as the devil?), I could just list various panel spectacles, ie "FLYING TALKING GUN SPITTING STONE HEADS," "GOOFY MUSIC VIDEOS," "THE SPECIAL PICTURE" (which would be repeated on the list multiple times), and the like, something like this wouldn't be too difficult after all. Maybe even one entirely about "JUST WHAT IS THE SPECIAL PICTURE?" in this style.

Then I was thinking of doing one or two that are just non sequitur but slightly related. So far, I have about three clips in which the punchline involves bears/people in bear suits (four if I can get a hold of Black Thunder for Senate), and so a picture like this along with "WATCH OUT FOR BEARS BECAUSE THEY'RE SCARY" or something would work well, provided it still had the name/room/time information in the corner:

http://www.raspberryheaven.net/~surat/bear.jpg

Of course, most of these I probably don't have the acumen to actually MAKE, so I might just go with the "screencap collage" method I put to use for Anime That Sucks back at Jacon. I'm 50/50 over whether I should do the montage of scenes from cop shows where people are asked to turn in their badge and gun (the TV Carnage montage plus a similar scene from Sin the Movie before ending it with Fullmetal Alchemist), but if I did, I'd need some sort of "YOU'RE OFF THE CASE [and on the Panel of Doom]" image.

No WALKER TEXAS RANGER? Ah well, no worries. I'm just in a flyer makin' mood and the PANEL OF DOOM is the next event on the HELL World Tour, so expect a shedload of flyers in the next few weeks.

You want B&W or Color?
